Handwriting Without Tears at CTS
At Children’s Therapy Solution’s we offer handwriting instruction by an occupational therapist trained in the Handwriting Without Tears (HWT) program. This award-winning program was developed by Occupational Therapists and it is the only developmentally-based curriculum on the market.
Easily modified for all skill levels, it uses a multi-sensory approach that allows for fun and hands on learning. This curriculum covers pre-handwriting readiness for children in Pre-K, and handwriting skills for children in kindergarten to 5th grade, with cursive instruction for grades 3rd-5th.

Mat Man is a fun way to teach fundamental school readiness skills such as visual spatial concepts as well as learning our shapes and letters. Together your child and therapist can sing a song along to the “Mat Man song” to add another multi-sensory component with a focus on body awareness.

Wood pieces are utilized to teach children everything they need to know for readiness and pre-writing skills through play while utilizing a multi-sensory approach. Children can explore and create letters as they combined wood pieces together. |
The 1-2-3 touch and flip cards provide a multisensory number learning experience. Double-sided cards feature tactile numbers and a puzzle to teach number recognition as well as allowing the child to check his/her work.
Flip crayons teach children how to place their fingers correctly to aid in grasp development which leads to a good pencil grip.
The slate chalk board is used for Wet-Dry-Try technique; which is a great multisensory activity to teach children how to write capitals and numbers.

My “First School Book” is used to teach letter stokes and how to write uppercase letters correctly. Once children know all of their capitals and can write their name in capitals they can be introduced to the lowercase letters with “My First Lowercase Book”
The remaining printed books follow a developmental order, provide same verbal language and directions, use double lines, and line generalizations. Differences between the books are the sizing of the double lines, words and sentences used, and amount of writing activities provided.
