Literacy at CTS
Reading services offered for school-aged and adolescents are individualized depending on each child’s needs. Whether you are concerned about your child achieving reading skills at grade level or the possibility of dyslexia, our trained staff can help. We combine and tailor programs including: Orton-Gillingham (a multi-sensory and balanced approach to phonics and reading), Lindamood Phoneme Sequencing (LiPS), Visualizing and Verbalizing for Language Comprehension, and more in order to provide well rounded literacy instruction.
Our comprehensive language-based assessments are tailored to fit your child’s individual needs in order to identify underlying areas of strength and weakness as they relate to language and literacy. The following skills are typically investigated in depth in order to develop a plan and execute individualized treatment accordingly: oral expression including story grammar, cohesion, vocabulary, and sentence structure; listening/auditory comprehension, evaluation of language structures including grammar, phonological skills including awareness and decoding; sight word recognition; oral reading skills including rate, accuracy, fluency, and comprehension; written language content, handwriting, spelling, as well as each child’s self-esteem as a reader.

The following visual depicts how reading problems may be multifactorial requiring evaluation and targeting learning in each area to achieve the ultimate goal of skilled reading.
Our therapists work closely with parents to improve literacy in the clinic as well as to provide creative solutions for supporting literacy at home.
